Reasons You Need to Have a Life Vision Statement

Many people move through life without a plan and somehow end up in a good place. But far more people go through life without a plan and end up not being happy with where they are. If you really want to like where you end up, craft a life vision statement to guide you through your life successfully.

Oprah Winfrey’s Vision Statement: “To be a teacher. And to be known for inspiring my students to be more than they thought they could be.”

When you see her statement, you may be confused because she’s not a teacher in the traditional sense. However, she has lived up to her vision statement because she’s seen as a teacher and leader throughout the world due to her philanthropic activities, building schools, and getting information out to the world.

It shows that your personal life vision statement can be achieved in ways that you may not have considered when you first create it.

It’s a Map to Your Future

Your life vision statement is really like a map to help you get to the future you want to have. You can look at your statement when any opportunity is presented and ask yourself if it fits in before saying yes.

It Helps You Set Goals with Purpose

Once you create your vision statement, you can then figure out what you need to do to achieve it and make it a fact. It may involve going to school, changing your diet, or something else entirely but it will provide you a direction to make goals that have a purpose.

It’s Easier to Overcome Roadblocks

When you know for sure the main reason you’re doing whatever it is you’re doing, you can overcome the roadblocks and distractions much easier. You can ask yourself if this thing fits in with your vision statement, and if it doesn’t, you can let it go.

It Provides a Focus for Your Life

Your personal vision statement should include what brings you joy, what causes you care about the most and the impact you want to achieve. When you focus more on impact, you’ll find that your actions mean a lot more.

It Gives Purpose to Your Life

Your personal vision statement can bring real purpose to your life. Plus, you can have more than one for each area of your life. For example, you may want to write a vision statement that is health-focused so that you can get healthier or help other people get healthier.

It Inspires You to Succeed

A personal vision statement is excellent to read again and again because it’ll help you stick to your goals and succeed. Try having your vision statement drawn and framed so you can look at it wherever you are working on it.

It Becomes the Basis for Your Decisions

If a choice you need to make takes you further from your vision statement, you know that you need to say no or make a different choice. For example, if you have a vision statement to leave less trash behind, you’ll want not to buy as much new to avoid adding more trash to the environment.

Without a clear vision for your life, you may not ever reach your real purpose. But with the vision statement to guide your choices, you have a much more likely chance of succeeding.
